REQUIREMENTS: An LLB. For acting prosecutors seeking promotion, any appropriate legal qualification. At least six (6) years post-qualification legal experience – Demonstrable competence to act independently, professionally, responsibly and with credibility. The incumbent must have the ability to act independently or with minimal supervision. Competence in prosecuting, guiding the investigation and giving instructions in more difficult ordinary and complex legal offences in the Regional and District Court. Experience in prosecuting and guiding the investigation of more complex cases heard in the Regional Court and sexual offences and cases involving children. Draft complex charge sheets and complex court documents. Good management skills. Must manage, mentor and train prosecutors. Excellent administrative skills.

DUTIES: Manage, mentor, mentor and train prosecutors. Study case files, decide on the commencement and conduct of criminal proceedings. Maintain matters and investigations of a general and more advanced nature in the Regional and District Court. Prepare cases for court and draft charge sheets and other proceedings for court. Present and assist prosecutors in presenting the State’s case in court, present witnesses, cross-examine and address the court on, inter alia, conviction and sentencing, and generally conduct proceedings on behalf of the State. Perform all duties relating thereto in accordance with the NPA code of conduct, policy and directives. Assist the Senior Public Prosecutor with staff performance appraisal. Perform general office administrative duties. Promote partner integration, community engagement and client satisfaction with partners in the criminal justice system.
