SALARY: R1 132 806 – R1 762 857 per annum (Level CM-1), (Full Cost Package)

REQUIREMENTS: Graduate in Law. For acting prosecutors seeking promotion, any appropriate legal qualification. At least eight (8) years qualifying legal experience. Five (5) years experience in legal practice will be an asset. Demonstrated competence to act independently, professionally, responsibly and with credibility. Good management skills. Manage, mentor and train prosecutors. Competence to conduct, guide investigations and give directions in reasonably complex or more difficult common law and statutory offences. Ability to draft chargesheets and complex court documents. Ability to act independently without constant supervision. Must have good administrative skills. Valid driving license.

DUTIES: Manage and oversee the assignment of work and performance management of lower level prosecutors, including trainee prosecutors. Train and mentor prosecutors, including trainee prosecutors, and stakeholders in preparing files, making decisions on the institution and conducting criminal proceedings. Represent the State in all courts. Present and assist prosecutors, including trainee prosecutors, in presenting the State’s cases to the court, direct and cross-examine witnesses and address the court on, inter alia, sentencing and similar matters. Deal with representations and complaints. Deal with instructions from the Attorney General and the Director of Public Prosecutions. Guide prosecutors towards the achievement of strategic goals and operational objectives set by the NPA, the DPP’s office and the CPP. Perform all duties, including administrative duties related thereto, in accordance with the NPA’s code of conduct and policy directives. Promote partner integration, community engagement and client satisfaction alongside partners in criminal justice.
